Alfred “Al” Vernon Bridgewater, 70, of Granger, IN passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:15 p.m. at The Hearth at Juday Creek. Al was born on October 18, 1945 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Owen and Maxine (Lambert) Bridgewater. In 1985, he married Linda Brumitt, who preceded him in death on July 20, 2014.
Al is survived by his daughter, Evonne (Jeff) Ruckriegel of Jasper, IN; stepdaughters, Kim (Rick) Renz and Robin O’Block, both of Granger, IN; stepson, Kenneth Szulczyk of Malaysia; and nine grandchildren.
Al served in the Navy as a Reserves Recruiter for 20 years, fighting in the Vietnam War, before retiring.
Al is remembered by his loved ones as a “ladies man” with charisma and a strong sense of devotion. He loved many local sports teams, including the Pacers, IU and the Chicago Cubs. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting baseball cards, and he had a lifelong goal to solve the JFK murder. Al was baptized at Harris Prairie Church by Bob Butler in 2012.
There will be a celebration of Al’s life with immediate family in the upcoming weeks.
