Alto Holmes, Jr.

Alto Holmes, Jr. 88, of South Bend, IN passed away at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN.  He was born on August 15, 1927 in North Liberty, IN to the late Alto Sr. and Ida Holmes.  In June 1978 in South Bend, IN, he was united in marriage to Dolores Holmes.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Dolores Holmes; daughter, Sharon Holmes of South Bend, IN; son, Lawrence R. (Tina) Holmes of Venice, FL; seven grandchildren; brother, Robert Holmes of North Liberty, IN; three stepsons and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Rickey Holmes in June 2013; sister, Carol Agee and brothers, John Holmes and Jack Holmes.

Mr. Holmes was a lifelong resident.  He served his country honorably in the United States Army.  He retired as a committee man for the union at Bendix Corporation and also retired from the South Bend Tribune as a bulk deliveryman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St. North Liberty, IN.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
