Anna B. WhiteselJune 3, 1946 ~ July 8, 2017 (age 71)
Anna B. Whitesel, 71, of South Bend battled ovarian cancer for two years and passed away on July 8, 2017. She was born on June 3, 1946 in South Bend, IN to Rudolph and Bernice (Everly) Kertai, who preceded her in death along with her brother, Emery H. Kertai, who passed away eight years ago. Anna graduated from South Bend Central in 1964. On October 3, 1964 in South Bend she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, James L. Whitesel.
Anna is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Whitesel; sons, Troy (Susan) Whitesel and James William (Kathy Luipold) Whitesel; grandchildren, Cole Whitesel, Jake Whitesel, and Jimmy (Nicole) Kimes; great-grandchildren, Kayla and James Kimes; sister, Betty Miller and aunts, Mary Pajor of South Bend and Betty Parker of Ft. Myers, FL. She is also survived by her Notre Dame family, many cousins, and friends that supported her and her family during her battle.
Anna retired in 2012 from the Notre Dame Ticket Office. She loved making memories with her family following Notre Dame athletic events. Anna was a 4-H member growing up and went on to become a leader for 4-H as an adult. She was also a member of SOUND (Society of Understanding Deafness). Anna was also a proud Polio Pioneer and was one of the first children to help in finding a cure for Polio in 1954.
Anna and her family would like to give a special thanks to those who cared for her during her battle: Dr. N. Onujiogu, Dr. I. Bedoya, Dr. Jay Patel, Shelia Fleming, Lynne Donoho, the MRCC staff and Christine Mihail for her spiritual guidance.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11th, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd., South Bend.
