SOUTH BEND – Bernice M. Rummel, 97, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:32 AM Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, South Bend.

Bernice was born on February 8, 1918 in Nappanee, IN to the late Emery E. Rummel and Dora (Clay) Rummel and has lived most of her life in this area, coming from Parkersburg, West Virginia where she lived for 20 years.

After completing her Master’s Degree, Bernice was Professor of Dental Hygienist at Parkersburg Community College from 1956 till 1983.  While living in South Bend, she worked for 20 years as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Harry Bailey, D.D.S.  She also enjoyed working in the office at Creative Circle.  Bernice attended Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend and Bernice attended Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend and River Park Church of Christ, South Bend. She enjoyed volunteering at the church. Bernice was an avid bowler. She greatly enjoyed the time spent caring for her great-great nieces and nephews. Bernice was dearly loved and will be missed by all of her family

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Emery E. and Dora Rummel; four sisters, Agnes Locsmondy, Frances Rummel, Maxine Rummel, and Violet Rummel; three brothers, Ralph Rummel, Everett Rummel, and Paul Rummel.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Rummel of Nappanee and Dorothy Rummel of South Bend.

She is also survived by three nieces and nephews, Carol Plau, Tom (Jeannie) Rummel and Linda (Mike) Varga; seventeen great nieces and nephews, Carolyn (Bob) Palm, Sharon Teska, Roger (Sandy) Teska, Kim Teska, Kristen Varga, Jason Varga, Kathleen (Larry) Cripe, Wayne (Donna) Rummel, Elaine (Scott) Mast, Doris (Jeff) Biller, Eric Rummel, Gretchen Rummel, Lauren Rummel, David (Gina) Rummel, Kim Thomas, Sharee Lynch, Cindy Stark; twenty-three great-great nieces and nephews, Olivia (Mark) Zuchowski, David Matthews, Joseph Trethewey, Kathryn Trethewey, Lillian Teska, Carey Lowenthal, Brian Palm, Brett Palm, Alysia Palm, Roger G. Teska, Tim (Terra) Teska, Cody Teska, Andy (Emily) Rummel, Peter (Kelli) Rummel, Natalie (Jeramie) Lederhouse, Valerie (Seth) Jacobs, Stephanie (Justin) Miller, Amy (Matt) Herr, Kent (Hanna) Biller, Ashley (Lee) Gardner, Sami Varga, Derrick (Heather) Cripe, and Neal (Crista) Cripe; and twenty-one great-great-great nieces and nephews, Nathaniel Urango, Vivian Zuchowski, Luke Teska, Sophia Teska, Ethan Palm, Alex Rummel, Adam Rummel, Erin Rummel, Casen Rummel, Cole Rummel, William Herr, Ellie Herr, Ely Herr, Mitchell Miller, MaKenna Miller, Ozni Yeboah, Chloe Cripe, Lana Cripe, Cameron Cripe, Cailin Cripe, and Cambry Cripe.

Funeral services for Bernice M. Rummel will be Friday, September 25, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may gather with the family two hours prior (10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon).  Rev. David Honeycutt, Pastor of Deer Run Church of Christ will officiate.  Graveside services will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.  Memorial contributions may be offered to Deer Run Church of Christ, 2730 S.
