Bertha Magee

Bertha "Birdie" Magee, 76, residing in South Bend, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born January 3, 1931 in Geneva County, Alabama as the daughter of Henry Davis & Susie Luvenia (Hollaway) Hall, and has lived in South Bend for 57 years coming from Georgia.


On December 22, 1973 in South Bend, as Birdie Bradshaw, she married Bud Magee. Together, they have enjoyed 33 wonderful years of marriage. She is survived by her loving husband Bud, her daughter, Iris Rymer and her husband Anthony of Knoxville, TN; her son Earl Ray Bradshaw and his wife Vivian of South Bend, four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cara) Ransberger, Scott (Kara) Ransberger, Gregory (Jessica) Bradshaw, and Randy Allen Lingle, and three great grandchildren, Haley Nicole Bradshaw, Billy Lingle and Michael Lingle. Also surviving two step children, Lorraine Fishburn and Bud Magee, Jr. both of South Bend. A sister, Lucile Thomas and three brothers, J.D. Hall, Emmet Hall and Ralph Hall all preceded her in death.


Birdie was a member of Deer Run Church of Christ in South Bend, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Avalon Grotto, and a former member of the Order of Beaucant.


She was formerly employed in the Telephone Division of the Uniroyal Corp. in Mishawaka retiring in 1973.



Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN with Rev. David Honeycutt, Pastor of Deer Run Church of Christ officiating. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m.


Entombment will take place on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the Park Hill Cemetery, Columbus, GA.
