David was one of the most loyal, loving human beings I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Our life experiences give each of us our own unique set of flaws (and he was no exception to that rule)... Still, my brother Marshall and I couldn't have asked for a more devoted friend than David.
And as for me ...David thought I was valuable long before I held myself in any high esteem. When I was very young, with nothing at all to offer, David came into my life and offered me everything he had, with no strings attached. He showered me with love and gifts and compliments until I finally believed I was worthy of such things. And he never stopped being there for me and my brother... Even many years later ...if I needed his help with anything, he was there.
The disease of addiction took my dear friend from me many years before his body left this Earth... But I will never forget what he did for me and how he changed my life. Confidence, self esteem, self love... These are gifts which can only be given to a person by way of unwavering commitment and unconditional love for them. It is for this reason that, here, in this small part of the universe where people often testify to the contribution a man or woman made to this world... I must ensure that loving words are written to remember him by. I owe him that much. You will always have a place in my heart, David Wayland.
Rest peacefully now, my dear friend, in the warmth of a thousand suns... and even if a hundred lifetimes from now, we will meet again.
