Donald Edgar Myers (Chief White Wolf Myers), 69 years old, was called and went to be with his Creator on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Don was born on April 22, 1948 in South Bend to the late Donald and Mary (Tuttle) Myers. December 1991, Don and Karen M. O’Neil were united in marriage and just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Along with his loving wife Karen, Don is survived by his mother-in-law, Rosemarie O’Neil of Battle Creek, MI and brother-in-law, Randy (Michelle) O’Neil of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Roger K. O’Neil.
Don had many passions in his life, one was law enforcement. As a police officer, Don served on the Roseland Police Department and was a former Police Chief for the City of New Carlisle. He was proud to serve as the Chief of Security and Law Enforcement with the Indiana State Children’s Hospital.
Don proudly served his country as Military Police in the United States Army in the 5th Special Forces out of Fort Bragg. While serving his country, Don became a POW in Vietnam.
No passion was more important than honoring his Native American heritage. With a combined heritage of Creek and Choctaw Cherokee; Don became the Chief of the Tallige Indian Tribe. He researched and established a tribe that welcomed those who could not prove their Cherokee lineage but wanted to embrace it. Don loved teaching about his Native American Heritage to libraries and schools.
Don and Karen loved to travel to Pow Wow’s and shared their love for Disney World.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Military honors and burial will follow. Friends may visit with the family from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 30th, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend.
