Donille "Doni" (Stembel) Hoevel

Donille "Doni" Hoevel, 88, of South Bend, IN passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in her home at Southfield Village.  Doni was born in Hammond, IN on December 25, 1927 to the late Oscar and Clara (Dunn) Stembel.   She married Benjamin Francis Hoevel, who preceded her in death on July 29, 2012.

Doni is survived by her daughters, Ann (Dave) Skirvin of Indianapolis, IN, Claire Lee Hoevel also of Indianapolis, Kim (Gary) Lee of Kalamazoo, MI and Amy Hoevel of Hamilton, OH; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Lawyer.

Doni graduated from Ball State University with a degree in education and taught at Lakeville high school prior to her marriage.  An avid artist, Doni painted in watercolors and was one of the founders of the Leeper Park Art Fair.  She was a passionate member of the St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society and Northern Indiana Artists, Inc.

Funeral services for Doni will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Cathedral; 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN.  Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel; 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN.

Contributions in memory of Doni may be made to St. Matthew Cathedral for the Sacrifice of the Mass for Doni or to the St. Joe Watercolor Society, c/o Janet Johnson, 2508 River Avenue, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
