Edward Joseph Balla

Edward Joseph Balla, 92, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 8:00am on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend.

He was born February 17, 1925 in Clifton, NJ, a son of the late Adrian & Anna (Boltazar) Balla.  On October 25, 1958 in Indianapolis, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Sanders, who survives.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Adrian Balla.

Edward served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.  He participated in action at Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Saipan, Marianas Islands, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Volcano Islands and was honorably discharged.  He retired in 1990 from Building Services at University of Notre Dame after 20 years of service. Edward enjoyed being outside in his garden as well as hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughter, Adrianne (Mark) Lenyo of South Bend, and his five grandchildren, Claire, Gabrielle, Brian, Peter and Olivia Lenyo.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30am on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 Old U.S. 31 South, South Bend, IN 46614.
