Ernestine (Winston) Shivers

Ernestine Shivers, 76, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 8:30 am Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in her home. She was born October 29, 1940 in Jackson, TN to the late James Robert and Lucretia (Jones) Winston.

Ernestine was a CNA (certified nursing assistant) at Cardinal Nursing Home and Northern Indiana Children’s Hospital in South Bend prior to retiring.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Patricia Winston Comer of South Bend; grandchildren, Katrina “Nikki” and Whitney “Clay” Davis, both of Portage, MI; and great grandchildren, DaMonique Morgan, Elijah and Devin Davis, JaMiere and Joseph Phillips and Mystique Warren. She is also survived by sisters, Evetta Trice, Rose White, Mary Ann Norman, Margaret Rebecca Winston and Joyce Winston, all of South Bend and Gail (Willie) Ashley of Tyrone, GA; and her brother, John (Peggy) Winston, also of South Bend. Ernestine was preceded in death by a grandson, James Robert Phillips; sisters, LueWillie Chatman and Pearline Theus; and brothers, Robert James and Roylee Winston.

Celebration of life will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Thursday, January 12 at ICU Ministries, 702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46616. Palmer Funeral Home—West Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
