Welcome to the memorial page for

Gregory E. (PeeWee) Piechocki

May 7, 1959 ~ July 15, 2017 (age 58) 58 Years Old
We lost our dad and brother on July 15, 2017. Greg (PeeWee) Piechocki passed away at Hospice House in South Bend with his loving family by his side. He put up a brave fight battling cancer and has now joined his dad and mom, who preceded him in death. Greg was born May 7, 1959 to Eugene and Evelyn (Janiak) Piechocki.

Greg is survived by his two daughters, Heather (Brian) Oltmanns of Fishers, IN and Ashley (Charles) Stockwell of Muncie, IN; four grandchildren, Makenzie and Brayden Oltmanns and Stephen and Evelynn Stockwell; as well as two sisters,  Linda (Thomas) Shuamber, Jr. and Carol (Patrick) Killelea, both of South Bend; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Greg worked as a truck driver for many years before retiring from driving. He worked several different jobs over the years, with his last employment being as a security officer.

In his spare time, Greg enjoyed Nascar. In fact, during Nascar season, he would put a sign on his door that said “Do Not Disturb -- It’s Race Day”. He would not come to the door or answer his phone. He loved all types of auto racing, even from a young age when he went to races in Michigan with a friend. Greg also loved his Harley and was always seen riding it, until he was involved in a serious accident and had to give up riding, although he never lost his love of the ride. He knew the sound of a Harley going down the street even if he could not see it.

Greg enjoyed fishing whenever he got the chance, or just sitting outside in his yard enjoying a campfire, his smokes and a couple of beers. You would find him outside in the wee hours of the morning by the fire with his oldies music quietly playing in the background, just enjoying the evening and watching what animals would come out at night. His most peaceful, calming memory that helped him to relax during these last few months is when we rented a cabin at Goff Lake for the weekend. He always wanted to retire on a lake and just fish.

We want to thank Gayle and Kathy, his nurse practitioners at Hospice House, as well as all of the staff and volunteers for their patience, caring, understanding and excellent care of Greg. You are all angels.

According to Greg’s wishes, there will be a private memorial ceremony. Cremation has already taken place. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614.
