James Harold Buress, Jr., 82, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 11:02 am Friday, October 16, 2015 in his home. He was born September 29, 1933 in Bloomington, IN to the union of James and Ann (Hartfield) Buress, Sr.
On May 17, 1999 in South Bend, Jim married the former Annette Lax. In addition to his loving wife, Annette, he is survived by daughters, Tanya Buress, Luchenne Buress and Rachel Brown, all of South Bend; sons, Juan and Dereck Buress and Dion (Tamika) Lax, also all of South Bend; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Buress; a son, Michael Buress; and a sister.
Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2011 as the first black wrestler to ever win an Indiana state title in 1953. Jim retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation as an engineer after 21 years. He loved attending and watching Notre Dame football games and was an usher for over 20 years.
There will be no public funeral services. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend.
