Jo Ellen Christy

Jo Ellen Christy, 42 years old, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.  Jo was born on April 2, 1975 in South Bend and has been a lifelong resident of Lakeville.  On June 7, 1997 in North Liberty at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, Jo was united in marriage to Shawn Michael Christy.

Jo is survived by, along with her loving husband, Shawn, their four children, Caleb Michael, Colin Matthew, Caden Micah, and Cara Sue Lynn Christy; her mother, Sue Gundlach; three sisters, Kathy (Donny) Stephens of Lakeville, Nancy  Gundlach-Minix of Plymouth, and Linda (Chad) Singleton of Plymouth; and two brothers, Robert (Charity) Haas of Indianapolis, and David Gundlach of High Point, NC.  Jo is also survived by her in-laws, Tom and Bobbie Christy of Mesa, AZ and Debbie and Randy Johnson of Plymouth; and sister-in-law, Shannon (James) Caldwell of Mishawaka. 

Jo was a 1993 graduate from LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School and a 1997 graduate from the University of Indianapolis.  She enjoyed photography and scrap booking and was a former educator for the Presbyterian Week Day Nursery School.  Jo was devoted to her family and her children were the center of her life.

A celebration of Jo’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.  Rev. Brian White, pastor of Lakeville United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to Shawn Christy, c/o Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN  46614 for a trust to be established for their children.  Online condolences may be offered to the Christy family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
