John P. Stopper

John P. Stopper, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:41 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  He was born May 30, 1952 in South Bend, IN to Joseph C. and Katherine (Lacopo) Stopper, and has remained a lifelong resident of this area. 

On October 14, 1983, in South Bend, IN, he married Georgia Koreane McCarty, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Ed (Racquel Erickson) Singleton, Jr. of South Bend, IN, and siblings; Frank (Verlie) Stopper of Osceola, IN, Joe and Jack (Connie) Stopper both of South Bend, IN. A “granddogger” Summer also survives.

Mr. Stopper is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert, and sister-in-laws, Jeri and Norma Stopper.

John spent most of his working years in the automotive industry; many of those years as an auto finisher with Gurley Leep Ford in South Bend. He was an avid bass fisherman and NHRA drag racing enthusiast; one of John Force’s biggest fans. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services for John P. Stopper will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46614. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
