John "Jack" R. Treadway

John R. “Jack” Treadway, residing in South Bend, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Paul’s Retirement Community. He was 89 years old.  He was born May 18, 1928 in Hammond, IN, and was a graduate of Hobart High School.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne during the Korean War.  On March 2, 1956 in South Bend, IN; Jack was united in marriage to Frances L. Boyer.  He is survived by his loving wife Frances of 61 years.  Also surviving is his daughter, Sue Anne (Pat) Cira of South Bend, his two sons, Frederick Charles Treadway of Wellborn, FL, and James Edward (Mary Jane) Treadway of Elkhart, IN, along with his brother, Frank Treadway of Virginia Beach, VA, six grandchildren, Tara (Josh) Jones, Stacey (Joe) Klawiter, Rick Treadway, Brian (Sherri) Treadway, Jason Treadway, and Nick (Jessica) Treadway, and ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Whelan, and his two brothers, his twin, Gene Treadway and Don Treadway.

Jack was an excellent carpenter, and served as Maintenance Engineer at Madison Center, South Bend, and retired as Vice President of Safety Engineering with Specialty Systems in Indianapolis, IN.  Jack was a Charter Boat Captain along with his twin brother Gene of Twins Charter Service.  He was Past Commander of Power Squadron, and was a huge Indy Race Car fan.  He and Frances were world travelers, loved ballroom dancing, and traveling in their motor home with Georgie boy friends.  They spent many years as snowbirds in Davenport, FL.

 Since 2009, their final home has been at St. Paul’s Retirement Community where they have enjoyed playing with the Handbell Choir.  Jack’s family wishes to express special thanks to the nurses and CNA’s for their loving care from both St. Paul’s and Senior One.

Memorial services for Jack will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, in the Chapel at St. Paul’s, 3602 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Chaplain Carol McCollester will officiate

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Jack Treadway may be offered to the Handbell Choir at St. Paul’s.
