Joyce E. Freel

Joyce E. Freel, 93, of  South Bend, IN passed away at 11:59 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Hospice House, Elkhart, IN.   She was born on April 19, 1922 in Racine, WI to the late Alfred and Ruth (Yerdon) Newman.  On May 17, 1942 in South Bend, IN, she was united in marriage to George Freel who preceded her in death on March 28, 1979.

Mrs. Freel is survived by her children, Susan R. Freel of South Bend, IN, David (Danette) Freel of Osceola, IN, Dennis (Jacqueline) Freel of South Bend, IN, Richard (Lynne) Freel of South Bend, IN and Thomas Freel of Louisville, KY; daughters-in-law, Barbara (Dean) Mochel of South Bend, IN and Christina Freel of Renton, WA and two sisters, Genevieve King of Edwardsburg, MI and Nancy (Dennis) Severns of South Bend, IN.  She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many who called her "grandma".   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Timothy Freel and John Freel.

Mrs. Freel moved to South Bend at the age of thirteen and remained a lifelong resident.  Her first love was her family and church.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting and babies.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 4849 Ford Street, South Bend, IN.  Pastor Stephen Wesco will officiate. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to the services on Friday.  Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
