Welcome to the memorial page for

Lt. Dale Fleming Furman, Jr.

December 13, 1935 ~ November 4, 2015 (age 79) 79 Years Old
Lt. Dale Fleming Furman, Jr., AKA Bud, of Mishawaka, IN passed away on November 4, 2015 at Hospice House in South Bend. He was born December 13, 1935 to Dale and Alice Furman of Royal Oak, MI. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and continued to serve our country as a pilot through the Vietnam Era. While in the service, Dale received several commendations including Air Medal, Achievement in Aviation Safety, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Admiral’s Cup Efficiency Award and Chief of Naval Operations Safety Award.

In 1969, Dale married the love of his life, the “prettiest woman” he ever met, Yvonne Furman. They had two children, Stephanie (Scott) Hoover of Mishawaka, IN and Sean Furman of Houston, TX. Dale will also be missed by his grandchildren, Julia, Lilly, Ragan, Shaylee, Rory, Adalee and Samuel; as well as his sisters, Marj Furman of Mishawaka, IN and Roxanne (Tim) Tyler of Topeka, IN.

After serving his country, Dale became a safety engineer. He retired from Amerisure Insurance Company after 28 years of service. He kept himself busy doing many things, such as delivering the coffee news and helping out the polls during election time. Dale loved his church, the Cathedral of St. James, as well as the fellowship that he felt while there. He was part of the process to help the church of the future. Dale was an avid sports fan and could recount almost all of history, but he says his greatest accomplishment was the family he created and the love he had to share.

Funeral services for Dale will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd, South Bend, IN. The Very Reverend Brian G. Grantz will officiate. US Naval Honors will conclude the services. Burial will take place at a later date in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to services Sunday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Navy League of the United States, 2300 Wilson Blvd, Suite 200, Arlington, VA 22201-5424. Online condolences may be left for the Furman family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
