Madelyne (Barrett) Shroff

Madelyne Shroff, age 92, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 12:13 p.m. surrounded by her family.  Madelyne was born on September 27, 1924 in Elkhart to the late Lloyd and Helen (Watson) Barrett.  On February 21, 1945 Madelyne married the love of her life, C. Jay Shroff in Norfolk, Virginia.

Madelyne is survived by her husband of 71 years Jay Shroff; daughter, Lynn (Bill) Ringer of Pawleys Island, SC; son, Greg (Cindy) Shroff of South Bend; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister, Mary Winans and brother, Lloyd Barrett.

Madelyne belonged to Delta Theta Chi Sorority. She worked for Tepe’s Department Store for 27 years before retiring.  Madelyne will best be remembered for being a great cook and always baking the best pumpkin pie around. Madelyne and Jay belonged to the Guys and Dolls dance club for many years and loved to dance everything from the waltz to the fox trot. Madelyne traveled all over the Unites States with Jay and particularly liked Hawaii. She was an avid reader and had bookcases full of novels. Madelyne cherished her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren above all else.

A memorial service for Madelyne will be 6:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl.
