Magdalena Sciba, 102, residing on North Ironwood Road, formerly of South Tuxedo Drive in South Bend, passed away at 12:42 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Signature Healthcare, South Bend.
Magdalena was born May 12, 1914 in South Bend, the daughter of Thomas LeBlanc and Elizabeth Hinschberger LeBlanc, and has remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. She was a graduate of Central High School and retired from Indiana Bell Telephone as Chief Long Distance Operator along with being a member of the Pioneers Club.
On September 4, 1982, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, she married Chester Sciba, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Antoinette Jones and Bernice Guentert; and her two brothers, Albert and Ralph LeBlanc. Magdalena is survived by nieces, Joan Copeland, Nancy Thilman, Carolyn Harper and Rosemary Bell; and her nephew, James LeBlanc. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, including a special great niece, Elizabeth Bell, who always remembered her with flowers and candy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5-8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2120 E. Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46617. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
