Marcia L. Martin

Marcia L. Martin, age 49, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital on Saturday morning. Marcia was born on March 13, 1968 to James C. Martin Sr. and the late Williana M. (Maefield) Martin.

Originally a Chicago native, Marcia spent the first few years of life in South Bend and moved to the Los Angeles area in 1978. Marcia was the proud mother of two children and a doting aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was a long-term Program Coordinator of the Martin Luther King Center here in South Bend and a member of the Charles Martin Center family, also located in South Bend. Marcia was the author of a number of children's books as well as a fictional novel. She was also the owner and creator of Start Your Adventure Hair, a local wig company that provided wigs to cancer patients.

Marcia is survived by her children, Reginald D. Charles Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Maleah E. Alsenat of South Bend, as well as a sister, Crystal Martin of Miami, FL, her father, James C. Martin Sr. of South Bend and a brother, James C. Martin Jr. and wife Yolonda Martin of San Bernardino, CA, as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Marcia was preceded in death by her mother, Williana.

A memorial service held in Marcia’s honor will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Charles Martin Youth Center, 802 Lincolnway West, South Bend. A repast is scheduled to follow from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, also at the Center. Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
