Maria A. Viramontes de Valdez

Maria A. Viramontes de Valdez, 62, of Chicago, took her last breath Tuesday, October 2, 2017 surrounded by her children, brothers, sisters, family and many loved ones. Maria was born August 15, 1955 in Valparaiso Zacatecas, Mexico to Ines and Damiana (Castañeda) Viramontes.

Maria lived in South Bend and Chicago after migrating from Mexico 43 years ago. In 1975 in Chicago, IL, she married Juan Antonio Valdez, who preceded her in death on August 3, 2016. Along with her husband, Maria owned and operated the Valdez Family Hand Car Wash. She loved to spend time with and cook for her family, was known for her laugh, and loved to crochet, color, and travel.

Along with her mother, Maria is survived by daughters, Yanira (Mike) and Nellida Valdez, both of Chicago, IL; sons, David A. (Brenda) Valdez and Daniel (Mercedes) Valdez, Sr., both of South Bend; and grandchildren, Anthony, Sophie, Natalie and Daniel Jr. She is also survived by sisters, Antonia, Socorro, and Ma. Del Refugio; and brothers, Mario, Pedro, Lorenzo, and Jose; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Saint Casimir Catholic Church with graveside services and burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-9 p.m. Friday October 6, 2017, at Palmer Funeral Home Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, 46614. A family led rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. during the visitation.
