Marjorie "Marge" Ruth (Elsea) Simpson

Marjorie “Marge” Ruth Simpson, 89, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 4:15 p.m. at Hospice House in South Bend.  Marge was born November 16, 1926 in Terre Haute, IN to the late James and Frances (Sanders) Elsea, and moved in South Bend in 1936, coming from Anderson, IN.   On August 30, 1947 in South Bend, IN she married Robert Edward Simpson, who preceded her in death on September 17, 1995.

Marge is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sue Hoctel of Norwalk, IA; sons, James William (Geneva) Simpson of Wichita Falls, TX and Thomas Robert (Adrienne) Simpson of New Carlisle, IN; five grandchildren, Matthew John Robert (Jana) Hoctel, Angela Marie (Chet) Johnson, Tamara Lyn (TJ) Mitchell, James William Simpson, Jr. and Ashley (Brandon) Simpson; eleven great-grandchildren, Timothy, Ella, Tyler, Emily, Grace, Isaac, Tanner, Trista, Tarah, Courtney, and a very special great-grandson, Atticus; and one great-great grandson, Breydon.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.   

Marge was a hairdresser for Palmer Funeral Homes for 20 years and retired from Do-All in South Bend in 1992 after seven years of service. She was a member of the South Bend-Mishawaka Bowling Association and served on its Board of Directors for many years. She was active in two bowling leagues. She also was an active member of the former Ladies Auxillary of V.F.W. Post 1167; and attended South Side Church of God, and was a member of its Speeders group.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel; 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN. Rev. Greg Crump, pastor of South Side Church of God will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.  Family and friends may visit on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 27, 2016 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park.
