Mary Ann Rayl

Mary Ann Rayl, 90 years old, passed away at 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s in South Bend.  Mrs. Rayl was born on August 14, 1926 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of the late Robert S. and Anna (Ericksen) Willard.  She has lived most of her life in South Bend.  Along with her parents, Mrs. Rayl was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rayl; and her son, Eric Willard Rayl. 

Mrs. Rayl was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in South Bend where she served as an usher, Deacon and Elder.  She graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Chicago and attended Ohio State University.   Mrs. Rayl was a member  of the Antiquarian Society of Valley of St. Joseph, Junior League, Northern Indiana Historical Society and volunteered on the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board for the Center for History. 

Mrs. Rayl is survived by three nieces, Jill Fisher, Billie Lee Mommer and Carol Anne Ramsey; one nephew, Paul Fahrendorf; and their respective families. 

A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Rayl will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in the Chapel at St. Paul’s, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend, IN.  A memorial service will also be held in Cedar Falls, Iowa and she will be laid to rest next to her parents in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.  Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is assisting the family.  Contributions in memory of Mary Ann Rayl may be donated to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
