Mary Ann (Young) Stanfield

May 18, 1933 ~ June 12, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Mary Ann Stanfield, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away June 12, 2016 at 11:55 p.m. at Maple Park Village in Westfield, IN.  She was born May 18, 1933 in Mishawaka, IN to the late David and Hazel (Rose) Young.  On July 29, 1961 in South Bend, she married William H. Stanfield, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2014.  They were happily married for 54 years. 

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Robert (Katherine) Stanfield of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, Maci, Michael and Maggie; and her sister, Sue Graves of Noblesville, IN.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, William Stanfield; and her sister Nancy Pennington. 

Mary Ann was an Administrative Assistant at the University of Notre Dame retiring in 2000 after 15 years of service.  Mary Ann had a great love of life.  She was a member of the Notre Dame University Club, Mishawaka High School Women’s Club, and a life-time member of Clay United Methodist Church.  She was an avid Irish football fan, loved her volunteer work at the Center for Hospice of St. Joseph County and the Braille Group.  She was also a life-time member of the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, a member of the PEO Sisterhood, the Mishawaka High School Alumni Association and the International Study Abroad Program. 

Memorial services will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Clay United Methodist Church, Firehouse location, 17646 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635. Rev. Mark Day, pastor of the church will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN.  Palmer Funeral Home – River Park is assisting the family with arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary Ann may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to Alzheimer of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
