Mary E. Schulz-Burns passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at home, surrounded by her family.
Mary leaves behind her daughters, Kassidy Burns and Kaila (James) Spaulding; and her grandson, due in April, 2017. She will be remembered for the passionate love and commitment she had for her girls and the strength, courage and perseverance she displayed while battling cancer for nearly six years.
Mary was born in South Bend, IN on June 2, 1969 to Alexandria (Sandy Sinkiewicz) and Robert Schulz. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
She is also survived by her brothers, Dan (Tracie) Meert, David (Kelly) Schulz and Larry (Cindy) Schulz; five nieces, Jillian, Kelsey and Rachel Meert, and Alexis and Emily Schulz; and one nephew, Samuel Schulz.
Mary worked as a bookkeeper for Alan Wright, CPA and Flags International. She enjoyed “going to the barn” to watch her daughters ride horses. Mary valued the relationships and friendships that were developed over the years in 4-H, and she found the time spent with these friends therapeutic for both her girls and herself.
Mary’s family would like to thank all of the people who helped her along the way, especially her treatment team at Michiana Hematology-Oncology and the friends she met there, Hospice, and the staff at St. Pius X Catholic Church. These individuals provided exceptional care and support.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Graveside services and entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2016 in the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mary may be donated to her daughters, Kassidy Burns and Kaila Spaulding.
