SOUTH BEND – Melvin D. “Skip” Whittaker, 78, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 12:20 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Morningside Nursing Center.  He owned and operated Mel’s Tree Service.  Skip was born on September 12, 1937 in Walkerton, IN to the late Russell and Sara (Pavey) Whittaker.  Later he moved from LaPaz, IN to South Bend. 

Skip is survived by his daughter, Teresa R. Whittaker of Mishawaka; his son, Doug E. Whittaker of Osceola; two grandchildren, Nicole Whittaker and Douglas S. Whittaker both of South Bend; great grandchildren, Savanna Morris, Hunter Krause, Riley Strock, Kamden Whittaker and Jordan Whittaker; his brother, Myron Whittaker of Plymouth; and the mother of his children, Rosie M. Kemper Whittaker.  His son, Tim A. Whittaker preceded him in death on September 12, 1992; as did his grandson, Jared N. Whittaker on May 11, 2011.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend where friends may visit with the family from 4:00 PM until time of service on Monday.
