Mervin W. Sedlar, 86, residing in Mishawaka, passed away peacefully at 10:34 am Sunday, June 12, 2016 in his home. He was born May 16, 1930 in Monessen, PA to the late William “Bill” and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Gibalowski) Sedlar. On November 9, 1953 in Chelsea, MA, Mervin married the former Winifred B. Damery, who survives.
 
In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, Mervin is survived by his sister, Mrs. Major Wilma (Kenneth) Abery of Pace, FL; his sister-in-law, Gladys Boyle of Bernardston, MA; six daughters, Sharon Sedlar of Vero Beach, FL, Faith Westcott of Virginia Beach, VA, Major Deborah Sedlar of Pittsburgh, PA, Heidi Watson of Norfolk, VA, Grace (Mika) Roinila of Mishawaka and Elizabeth Douthett of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Krista) Anderson, Melinda (Kevin) Metzger, Ari, Anna & Laura Roinila and Sinikka (Alan) Rohrer; as well as three great grandchildren, Katrina & Ryder Anderson, Nevaeh Holcomb and Marcus Quintero. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Henn; and his twin brother, Edward Sedlar.
 
Mervin worked for nearly three decades as a minister in the Salvation Army. Together with his wife Winnie and children, he lived across the US Eastern Territory of the Salvation Army. They later lived in Old Orchard Beach, ME for over 30 years. Throughout his life, Mervin spent countless hours caring for the needs of others and sharing with anyone who would listen, the story of Jesus and His unfailing love. “The Godly will flourish like the cedars of Lebanon, for they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house! They flourish in the courts of our God even in their old age.” Psalm 92:12-15.
 
There will be no public services. Interment will take place at Laurel Hills Cemetery in Saco, ME at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
