Michael P. Smith

Michael P. Smith, 61, South Bend, IN passed away at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on May 28, 1954 in Bad Nauheim, Germany to Dale and Margret (Stecher) Smith.  

Mr. Smith is survived by his mother Margret G. Smith of South Bend, IN; sister, Linda (Jeff), Knepper; niece, Kaitlyn Knepper; nephew, Aaron Knepper; great nephew, Gabriel and godmother, Rosemarie Popelka of Germany.  He was preceded in death by his father, Dale S. Smith and an aunt, Eva M. Fell.  

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire crew that took care and formed a special bond with Michael the 5 yrs. he resided at Ironwood; there are not enough words to convey what they have meant to both Michael and his family.  Also, to Heart to Heart Hospice of South Bend; the personnel that assisted Michael and communicated with his family was more than helpful.  Many heartfelt thanks from his family to his friends that shared they lives with Michael throughout  his life, and the kindness that they showed him.  Michael cherished your friendship and the time you spent with him, you meant the world to him.  And finally, to Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel for their professional, yet intimate guidance at this present time.

 There will be no services or visitation at this time.  Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel  and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.  Burial will take place at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery.
