Monica Lynn Casbon, age 63, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 18, 2019 at Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN. She was born on August 10, 1955 in Michigan City, IN, to Frank J. and Mary F. (Ray) Kamaski.
On September 30, 2000 in Chesterton, IN, Monica married Robert D. Casbon, who survives. In addition to her husband, Monica is survived by her daughter, Katie F. Casbon of Granger, IN; mother, Mary F. Kamaski of Chesterton; sister, Marie Kamaski of Porter, IN; and brothers, Michael (Vickie) Kamaski of Chesterton; Mark Kamaski of Griffith, IN; and Matt Kamaski of Porter. Monica was preceded in death by her father, Frank Kamaski as well as an infant brother, Frankie.
Monica graduated from Andrean High School in Merrillville, IN. While attending college, she worked with her mother as a licensed beautician in Chesterton, Indiana. Monica earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University and was employed as an auditor for state of Indiana. She most recently worked as a teacher’s aide at St. Joseph Preschool. She was an active member of St. Pius X Church and volunteered at the school. She enjoyed “brunch with the Ladies of St. Pius,” a small group of very good friends. She also very much loved the holidays, and cooking and spending time with family.
Monica battled cancer for over eight years and never complained. She received chemotherapy every two weeks. Often, her friends were not aware of her condition. She graciously warmed the hearts of those that were fortunate enough to know her. She will truly be missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at St Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. Rev. Mgr. William C. Schooler will officiate. A luncheon will follow immediately from 11:00am-12:30pm. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Chesterton, IN, beginning at 1:00pm CST. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Monday, March 25th at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with a prayer vigil at 7:00pm following visitation. Additional visitation will be held at St. Pius X on Tuesday from 9:00-10:00am prior to Mass.
