Ollie T. Sanderson

Ollie Thornton Sanderson, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul.  She was born on August 6, 1925 in Detroit, MI to the late David G. and Mattie W. (Thornton) Miller.  On May 3, 1952 in Detroit, MI, she was united in marriage to David J. Sanderson who preceded her in death on February 2, 2014.

Mrs. Sanderson is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Greg) Swiercz of Mishawaka, IN; two grandchildren, Michelle Russell of South Bend, IN and Crystal Swiercz of Mishawaka, IN; six great grandchildren, Violet, Magnolia, Xavier, Jesse, Teddy, Zachery.

Mrs. Sanderson lived most of her life in Michigan, moving to South Bend, IN in 1994.  She was a graduate of Olivet College.  She was a music teacher in elementary schools in the greater Detroit and Lansing areas.  She was a member and volunteer of the First Presbyterian Church where she played piano.  Mrs. Sanderson was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1954, joining the Schuyler Colfax Chapter of South Bend in 1994.  In her free time, she enjoyed traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN.  Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
