Phyllis M. McLean Dyer

Phyllis M. McLean Dyer, 95, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 10:32am on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in South Bend. She was born on October 2, 1921 on a farm in Jones, MI, to the late Elmer Harrison and Margaret Sophia (Bingaman) Jones. On September 7, 1940, Phyllis married George Neil McLean who preceded her in death on March 7, 1966. Later in life on February 1, 1979, Phyllis married William “Bill” Dyer who preceded her in death on February 1, 2000.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Kate Gillis; her son-in-law, Bill Ruth; her grandchildren, Jamie Gillis, Nealie (Marcos Martinez) Gillis, Jim (Tina) Ruth, John Ruth, and Becky (Scott) Yates; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Ruth; son, John McLean; and brother, T. Alton Jones.

Phyllis was taught in a one-room school house, Poe’s Corner, in Jones, MI, and later graduated from Three Rivers High School. She continued her education at Kalamazoo Business College where she completed her degree. Phyllis then used her education to become a bookkeeper for her husband, George’s, business General Equipment. She was a gentle, kind and beautiful soul, and she will always be remembered as the greatest mother in the world by her adoring family.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Riverview Cemetery, 2300 Portage Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
