Richard E. Lutz, 91, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:30 am Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in his home. He was born July 21, 1923 in Lima, OH to the late Donald Samuel and Helen Esther (Taylor) Lutz.
On February 1, 1963 in Dundee, MI, Dick married the former Patricia Ann Majors, who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Jane Elizabeth Gries of Woodlands, TX, Lynn S. (David) Hayward of Sylvania, OH and Beth (Scott) Benjamin of Granger, IN; son, R. Scott (Michele) Lutz of Sylvania, OH; grandchildren, Michael (Franny) Morten, Elizabeth (Brandon) Oates, Emma Gries, Jared and Justin Lutz, Christopher (Kristi) Hayward, Jennifer (Mitchell) Shaffer, Mathew Hayward, Lydia Benjamin and Jeff and Kelly Coker; and great grandchildren, Kay Morten, Carter, Clarey and Campbell Oates, Mathew, Evan and Isaac Hayward, Tatum Huling and James Shaffer. He was preceded in death by daughters, Marilyn Jean Lutz and Patti Ellen Coker; and his only brother, Bernard Lutz.
Dick served his country honorably in the United States Army. He retired from AM General Corporation as a supervisor in 1986. Dick was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church in South Bend. He was an avid bowler and golfer. After bowling for many years, Dick was inducted into the South Bend ABC Hall of Fame in May of 2000.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road, South Bend where a memorial services for Dick will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Vickie Van Nevel officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
