Rita L. Sommer

Rita L. Sommer, age 87, of South Bend, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 12:20 AM. Rita was an AT&T Pioneer of America Telephone Operator for many years until she retired in 1983.

Rita was born on April 12, 1930 to John and Blanche (Jamrosy) Sommer, who preceded her in death. Rita is survived by her sisters Barbara Ann Sommer of Mishawaka, IN; brothers Raymond (Shirley) Sommer of South Bend, Leonard (Dorothy) Sommer of Mishawaka, and Ronald (Evelyn) Sommer of Richmond, IN; sister-in-law Nancy Sommer of South Bend; and brother-in-law Bob Shriner. Rita is preceded in death by her sister Patricia Ann Shriner; and brothers Chester Sommer, Julius Sommer, and John (Rita) Sommer.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Rosary to be recited at 5:00 PM by Father Kevin Bowman during the visitation. A funeral service for Rita will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S Mill St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions in honor of Rita may be given to Hospice Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
