Robert James Starzynski

Robert J. Starzynski, 75, lifetime resident of South Bend, passed away at 1:30pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at his residence in South Bend. He was born on March 10, 1942 in South Bend to the late Frank and Angela (Cukrowicz) Starzynski.

On October 1, 1977 in Edwardsburg, MI, Robert married Corrine Sue (Marina) Starzynski, who survives. Robert is also survived by daughters, Angela M. Starzynski and Betty Joan Smyers, both of South Bend; sons, Joe Tholen of South Bend; John Tholen of Edwardsburg, MI; four grandchildren, Alexis N. Starzynski, Jordan James Kaylor, Shayla McGee, and Dylan Smyers; sister, Patricia Wisniewski of South Bend; brother, Ed (Karen) Starzynski of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, James Tholen and his brother, Roger Smolka.

Robert was an avid fan of Notre Dame football. He was employed for more than twenty years as a grounds caretaker for the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Memorial services for Robert will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 915 N. Olive Street, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor Terry Bays will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Palmer Funeral Home ~ West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
