Mary Frances Vaerewyck, 82, and Robert Joseph Vaerewyck, 81, passed away at home Thursday morning, February 6, 2014. They were married October 20, 1951 in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church, Mishawaka, and died within hours of each other after 62 wonderful years together.
Mary was born March 6, 1931 in Hebron, IN to the late John Leslie and Frances Evelyn (Hewitt) Morgan. She worked in retail for many years at L.S. Ayres. Bob was born March 23, 1932 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Aloysius Franciscus and Emilie Paulie (Vervate) Vaerewyck. After serving his country honorably in the United States Air Force, Bob worked as a sales representative for Uniroyal prior to retirement.
Surviving Mary and Bob are their children, Leslie Jayne (Thomas) Kelly of Friendswood, TX, Linda Sue (Thomas) Huser of Noblesville, IN and Mike Joseph (Barbara) Vaerewyck of Granger; grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly, Tracy (Bradley) Woodard, Catherine (Daniel) Slott, Lauren (Jeffery) Wroblewski and Kelly Vaerewyck; and great grandchildren, Melissa, Myles and Cora. Also surviving are Mary’s siblings, Elizabeth Jane Fenska of Arizona, Genevieve Ulbricht of Oregon and Richard (Joan) Morgan of Arizona; as well as Bob’s siblings, Barbara Jean (Robert) Reeves of Arizona, Diana Patricia (Neal) Barret of Mishawaka and Richard Alfohnso Vaerewyck of Mishawaka. Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Vaerewyck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, February 10, 2014 in St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46635, where military honors will be rendered. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Sunday, February 9, 2014 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 6:45 pm.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mary and Bob may be donated to the Little Flower Food Pantry or Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be left for the Vaerewyck family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
