Robert “Bob” Glen Harney, 86, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 8:45 am Friday, November 20, 2015 at Tanglewood Trace Assisted Living in Mishawaka. He was born November 25, 1928 in Mishawaka to the late Glen and Geraldine (Pratt) Harney and remained a lifelong area resident.
Robert served his country honorably. He left school at age 16 and joined the Merchant Marines. He then enlisted in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Italy. Later, he was deployed through the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After service to his country, he spent his life in the Tool and Die Industry. He retired as an independent Tool and Die Maker. Robert was a member of Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend.
On March 4, 1950, in Mishawaka, Bob married the former Iva Barden, who preceded him in death on December 30, 1999. He is survived by one sister, Dixie Kollar of FL; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Pastor Brian Durand of Clay Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the funeral home.
Over the years, Robert and Iva enjoyed traveling, camping and their pets; especially “Bandit”, his companion, who gave Bob comfort, after Iva’s death. SOB, “Sweet Ole’ Bob”, will be greatly missed; especially by the Ross family. He was a big part of their lives.
