Russell Timothy LaVine Sr., 73, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 16, surrounded by his family. Russell was born on June 6, 1944 to the late Marion Joseph LaVine Sr. and Helen (Newton) LaVine Croy.
On June 26, 1980, Russell was united in marriage to Kimberly S.(Bates) LaVine, who survives. Russell was a lifelong South Bend resident and retired in 2004 from Quality Metal Products in Niles after 20+ years of employment. Russell was also employed at Dayco, later taking over his father’s business, LaVine & Sons Construction Company in South Bend. Russell was an avid golfer and bowler, enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels and diecast cars and was a member of Bowlers Country Club in South Bend. He loved and cherished his family, known to his children as the “best dad ever”!
Russell is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kimberly, as well as five children: Russell (Dawn) LaVine Jr., Tina (Rich Jr.) Brewer, Mary LaVine, Jackie (Terrence) Jones and Carl (Alison) LaVine, all of South Bend. Russell is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Russell, Shelby, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Stephanie, Stephen, Eric Jr., Alyssa, Isaac, Josiah, J.J., Addison, Sophia, Karlie, Jack and Ellie, 17 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ruby Tingley of South Bend and Joy Farr of Las Vegas, NV, a brother, Terrence LaVine of South Bend, many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Molly the dog. Russell is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marion LaVine Jr. and Charles LaVine, a sister, Bernice LaVine, and two daughters, Lisa (LaVine) Fell and Linda LaVine.
Services for Russell will be held on Tuesday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend. Pastor Russell Shefbuch will officiate. Friends may call on the family for visitation on Monday, January 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Russell to Heartland Hospice.
