Ruth Mildred Thomas

Ruth Mildred Thomas, 89, of South Bend, IN passed away 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the home of her son.  She was born on September 22, 1927 in Delong, IN to the late Raymond Mahler and Mildred Veda (Zechiel) Ditmire. 

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her son, Mark (Deborah) Thomas of Osceola, IN; daughter-in-law, Terri Thomas; grandchildren, Bryan (Sara) Thomas, Laura Thomas, Amber (Mike) Westra, Dennis Nimtz and Philip Nimtz; five great grandchildren; sisters, Doris, Jane and Jean and brothers, Lee and Norman.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Earl Thomas on March 9, 1974, son, Dwight Allen Thomas on December 31, 2008, sister, Catherine and brother, Fred.

Mrs. Thomas was a teacher for the South Bend Community School Corporation.  She loved quilt making and playing her favorite #1 game, Scrabble.  She belong to a sewing circle and to the Lakeville United Methodist Church, where she volunteered and sang in the choir.

A special thanks to her daughter-in-law, Deborah Thomas for the amazing care she gave to Ruth. Also a special thanks to Tina and Michelle at Hospice for their care and love.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan St., Lakeville, IN.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN and one hour prior to the service Monday at church.
