Sandra Lea Zeiger

Sandra Lea Zeiger, 72, of South Bend, IN passed away at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Memorial Hospital.  She was born on February 20, 1944 in Mishawaka, IN to the late William Emile and Evelyn Irene (Feitz) Nicholas.  On August 16, 1964 in South Bend, IN she was united in marriage to Larry A. Zeiger who preceded her in death on March 27, 1994.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Graham.

Sandra is survived by her son, Todd (Terri) Zeiger; two daughters, Suzanne (Randy) Krill and Jill (David) Siglawski all of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Lindsey Zeiger, Rachael Zeiger, Jacob Zeiger and Jaxon Krill; two sisters, Sharon (Gary) Wells of Beavercreek, OH and Diane (Joseph) Furore of Mishawaka, IN. 

Sandra was a lifelong resident of South Bend.  She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Mary's Convent working with the Sisters. She was a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, belonged to the Bible Study Fellowship, Junior's Club, Progress Club, Rural Youth, 4-H and St. Joseph County Extension Homemaker's Club.  She enjoyed stitching with her friend, Blanche.  Sandra was the first woman school bus driver for South Bend Community School Corporation.  She loved to cook and bake, winning a prize in the King Arthur baking contest and was known as a "Master Packer of Snacks".  She loved growing up in Wyatt, loved traveling, garage sales and eating out.  Sandra enjoyed playing cards and working at the voting polls.  She had a very compassionate heart and was a born caregiver and nurturer at work and at home for her entire life. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN.
