Sarah A. Smith

Sarah Arvilla Smith, 97, of South Bend, IN passed away at 2:55 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at West Woods of Niles.   She was born on November 18, 1915 in Sauble, MI to Charlie and Leona (Lamunion) Ross.   On October 7, 1961 in South Bend, IN, she married Raymond J. Smith who preceded her in death on  July 24, 1990.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Lawrence (JoAnn) Burrington of Osceola, IN; Marian (Jim) Wetzel of Richland, WA, Mary (Dennis) Wilson of Mishawaka, IN, Susan Marvel of Largo, FL and Betty Mae (Vern) Freeze of Pottsboro, TX; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five plus great grandchildren; forty-five plus great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Mike Smith and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Smith moved to South Bend in 1958 coming from Michigan.  She was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
