Virginia F. Warner, 96, of South Bend, IN passed away at 5:58a.m. Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Hospice House.  She was born on February 10, 1921 in Plymouth, IN to the late Clarence A. and Verna (Smith) Richard.  On June 1, 1946 in South Bend, IN she was united in marriage to William F. Warner who preceded her in death on October 14, 1985. 

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Tom) Gemmell of Juneau, AK, Linda (Ed) Leininger of Mishawaka, IN and Barbara James of South Bend, IN; sons, John Warner of South Bend, IN, Mike (Jennifer) Warner of North Salem, IN, Patrick (Susan) Warner of South Bend, IN and Christopher (Laura) Warner, Hoopston, IL; twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters, Jane Heim of Oceanside, CA, Clara (George) White of Vero Beach, FL and Cecelia Pfledderer of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Albert (Celine) Richard of South Bend, IN and Ralph (Sue) Richard of Tucson, AZ ; sisters-in-law, Rogene Richard and Joan Richard, both of South Bend, IN and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, sisters, Rose Alsop, Germaine Goff, Marcella Richard, Alice McAndrews and Annette Peterson and brothers, Adrian Richard and Roger Richard.

Virginia was a lifelong area resident.  She served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II.  She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and Hospice for over twenty years.  Virginia was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral.

The family wishes to thank the Center of Hospice Care, Hospice House of South Bend, nurse, Brittany and Aleema, the administration and staff at St. Paul's Retirement Community and all of the caring and loving residents who knew our mother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017                  at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.   Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Virginia F. Warner may be offered to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545, Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613 or St. Paul's Retirement Community, 3602 S.
