Yvonne E. Jones, 61, passed away peacefully at 8:02 pm Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. She was born October 18, 1955 in South Bend to the late Reuben and Wauleane (Scruggs) Parker and remained a lifelong area resident, attending South Bend schools Linden, Central and Riley before finishing in 1974.
On May 7, 1983 in South Bend, Yvonne married Gregory Jones, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Aisha (Shaw Jones) Flournoy and Dorothy Jones (Oliver Keultjes), both of South Bend; her son, Gregory A. Jones of South Bend; and six grandchildren, Braxton, Christian, Gregory A. Jr., Kashmier, Madyson and Nyaisha Jones; as well as expecting her first great grandchild. Additionally, she is survived by sisters, Dorothy (Warren) Williams and Macy Parker, both of South Bend; and brothers, Reuben Parker, Charles Parker, Ronnie (Mary Lou) Parker, Larry (Karla) Parker, Sr., Dennis Parker, Marion (Christine) Parker, Rufus Parker and Ulues Parker all of South Bend, and Walter (Debra) Parker of Indianapolis. Yvonne was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anijah L. Jones; and brother, James Parker.
Yvonne was most recently employed at the Morris Inn at Notre Dame and previously employed with the Brothers of Holy Cross, University of Notre Dame and Lakeland Hospital in various positions, including nursing assistant, dietary aide and environmental services. She attended Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her father-in-law, Rev. Hardy Jones, where she was an active choir member, before taking fellowship at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rickardo Taylor.
Yvonne enjoyed many years as a homemaker, cooking, cleaning, traveling, gardening and going to play Bingo. She took great pride in being a tremendous wife, mother, grandmother and soon-to-be great grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services for Yvonne will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 South St. Joseph Street, South Bend. Pastor Rickardo Taylor will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Saturday in the church prior to services. Palmer Funeral Home - West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
