David E. Gibson, 73, of South Bend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 22, 2024 at his home.
David was born on September 24, 1950 in Plymouth to the late Edward and Virginia (Johnson) Gibson.
After High School, David attended Valparaiso Electrical Tech. David retired as a heavy equipment operator for NIPSCO after 38 years in 2012. David was a proud member of United Steelworkers Local 12775.
On January 25, 1975, David married Deborah Rehmel and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage together.
David loved to fish, spend time outdoors, feed the birds, ride his Harley, and most of all, spend time with his family and two pugs, Eli and Daisy.
David is survived by his wife Deborah Gibson; his daughter Jessica (Neil Simpson) Gibson of Milwaukee; his son Joshua (April) Gibson of South Bend; grandchildren Sabrina, Landen, and Noah; his sister Sandy Ross of Grovertown; and the mother of his grandchildren Heather Gibson. David’s family loved him deeply and will greatly miss his sense of humor, his beautiful smile, and his thoughtfulness.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Tonya Ogle, Leroy Skiles, and Butch Skiles.
A memorial service for David is being planned for August 4, 2024 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at Castle Manor in Merrifield Park, located at 801 Indiana Avenue in Mishawaka and all friends and family are welcome to attend. The immediate family will hold a private service to honor David in April.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation.
