Frederick "Fred" Roble Obituary

Frederick "Fred" A. Roble, a cherished soul known for his loving nature and courageous spirit, passed away on April 15, 2024, in South Bend, IN. Born on September 24, 1925, in Edwardsburg, MI, Fred lived a life defined by dedication to his country, his community, and his family.

Growing up in the nurturing fold of his parents, Walter and Bernice (Przystas) Wroblewski, along with his brothers Joseph and Daniel Wroblewski, all of whom preceded him, Fred cultivated a resilient spirit that would see him through the challenges and triumphs of an entire century. His high school education at St. Joseph Catholic High School in Berrien Springs laid the foundation for a life of diligent service and unwavering ethics.

Answering the call of duty, Fred bravely served in the United States Navy during World War II, engaging in significant battles within the Pacific Theatre. He proudly served as a signalman on the USS Sabine. After his honorable discharge, he channeled his tenacious work ethic into the business arena, successfully owning two beloved restaurants—one in South Bend and another in Elkhart. Fred also dedicated many years of his career to Allied Signal before retiring in 1986.

A faithful parishioner of St. Pius Catholic Church, Fred nearly never missed a Mass, embodying the devotion and consistency that marked every aspect of his life. He married the love of his life, Virginia J. Soens, on August 17, 1957, at St. Bavo Catholic Church, building a lifetime of memories until she passed before him.

Fred was an accomplished individual, but he found equal joy in life's simpler pleasures. A proud member of the American Legion Post 303, he also had a passion for old cars. His heart held a special place for the staff and atmosphere at Mission BBQ, where he was a thrice-weekly patron and received care akin to family.

Never one to seek the spotlight, Fred's legacy is nonetheless illuminated by the numerous loving nieces and nephews left to honor his memory. He modeled courage and love through quiet actions and steadfast presence—a true gentleman who will be deeply missed but remembered with immense gratitude.

We would like to sincerely thank the staff on the 7th floor at Beacon Memorial Hospital for the respect and care they showed our uncle. A sincere thank you also to Jeanine Burns, for her friendship, caring, many meals, and desserts she made for him over the years.
