Gerald D. Shoemaker, 89, of Lakeville passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 27, 2024 at East Lake Nursing and Rehab in Elkhart.
Gerald was born on June 15, 1934 in Plymouth to the late Roy and Hazel (Snyder) Shoemaker. After graduation Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Gerald met and married Doris Lindsey on April 27, 1957, sharing 66 years of marriage before her passing last year.
Gerald was hired by the Indiana State Police and served his community proudly as a State Trooper for 33 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Fraternal order of Police as well as Walnut Church of the Brethren in Argos.
Gerald is survived by his daughters; Pamela (Kevin) Birchmeier and Deborah (Mark) Shultz, his grandchildren; Nicole (Travis) Finner, Shane (Amber) Barger, and Garrett (Nicole) Sharp as well as 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. His brothers; George (Carol) Shoemaker, Russell (Launa) Shoemaker, and Steven (Shirley) Shoemaker also survive.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Doris Shoemaker, and his siblings; Harold Shoemaker and Marilyn Shoemaker.
Visitation for Gerald will be held from 11am-1pm on Wednesday April 3 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville Chapel inside the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan St. Lakeville. A funeral service will begin at 1pm. Gerald will be laid to rest at a later date at Walnut Church Cemetery in Argos.
