Margaret J. (Key) McKinney, a beacon of light, passed away on April 18th, 2024 at the age of 98 in Mishawaka, IN. Born to Bernard and Linnie (Dillingham) Key on September 14, 1925, in Nortonville, KY, Margaret's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, faith, and creativity. She was the beloved wife of the late James McKinney, with whom she entered into matrimony on December 7, 1940, in Madisonville, KY, spending 61 years together and building a life together until his passing.
Margaret, known for being a loving, faith-filled homemaker, devoted her life to the care of her family. She is survived by her cherished children, Wilford "Buster" McKinney of Leesburg, Patsy (Jack) Buck of South Bend, and Lisa (Mike) McKinney of Mishawaka. Her legacy of love continues through her adored grandchildren, Jenny (Jim) Chupp, Julie (John) Boynton, James (Jodi) Buck, Sandy Novick, Adam (Ashlee) Hanback, Taylor Hanback, and Morgan (Shannon) Flynn, along with ten great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren who will carry the warmth of her memories in their hearts. Margaret grew up in a loving full house hold that included her sisters Winifred Harbin and Maymie Pride; Brothers, Alton Key and Delbert Key; and her loving infant sister who all preceded her. She is survived by sister Martha Faye Dosman.
Margaret's talents and interests were manifold. An avid oil painter and an amazing seamstress, she wove beauty into every aspect of life. Her profound commitment to faith was evident in her longstanding involvement with Albright United Methodist Church in Mishawaka and, in her later years, North Webster United Methodist Church.
Margaret's unwavering spirit and compassionate heart were a guiding light to all who knew her. Her life was a reflection of her values, imparting lessons of kindness, devotion, and the importance of faith. As we bid farewell to this exceptional woman, let us celebrate Margaret's fulfillment of a life rich with purpose and love, a life that was treasured by everyone she touched.
Visitation for Margaret will be on Thursday, April 25 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka where funeral services will take place immediately following the visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN.
