Allen G. Gerard

Allen G. Gerard, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend. He was born on October 31, 1928 in Hart, MI, to John and Doris (Gray) Gerard, both of whom preceded him in death.

On December 26, 1988 in Hammond, IN, Allen married the former Juanita Lozano, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Allen is survived by four daughters, Susan Ellis of Hartford, MI; Amy (Pat) Schellenbarger of Grand Rapids, MI; Julie (John) Heater of Watervliet, MI; Dawn (Marty) Puzon of Chicago, IL; three sons, Gary (Bonnie) Gerard of Michigan City, IN; Eric (Ellen) Butler of Bloomfield, CO; Michael Butler of Wheatridge, CO; Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (Harvey) Breen of Newaygo, MI; Ann VanderKuyl of Utah; and brother, Dr. Donald (Donna) Gerard of Lowell, MI. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Gerard, and his sister-in-law, Charlene Gerard.

Allen was employed in sales at J.W. Allen & Company. He traveled to various bakeries to teach baking and cake decorating. He proudly served in the United State Navy Reserve. Allen had a great sense of humor, and he was a very talented painter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am prior to Mass at the church. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
