Anne F. Kovas
July 9, 1924 ~ October 5, 2015
Anne F. Kovas, 91, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 10:50 am Monday, October 5, 2015 in Hospice House. She was born July 9, 1924 in Vincennes, IN to the late Charles and Margaret (Dattilo) Lazzara and moved with her family to the South Bend area in 1936.
On June 14, 1947 in South Bend, she married Stephen D. Kovas, who preceded her in death on April 26, 1988. She was also preceded by sons, David, Kenneth and Timothy Kovas; daughter, Kathleen Kovas; son-in-law, Rocco Papandria; sister, Mary Lazzara; and brother, Salvatore Lazzara.
Anne is survived by her children, Dianne Papandria of Lakeville, IN, John (Charisse) Kovas of Austin, TX and Daniel (Cheryl) Kovas of South Bend; daughter-in-law, Susan Kovas of Chester, SC; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Kylie, Aaron, David, Katie, Kelsey, Joseph and Grant; two step grandchildren, Chris and Dominic Papandria; and one great granddaughter, Emma. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Shirley) Lazzara; and sister, Terri (Fred) Binder; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Anne, a former Executive Director of United Health Services and Education Coordinator at St. Joseph Medical Center, was an active volunteer with many organizations and projects through the years.   She was a founding member of Hospice of St. Joseph County, a long standing board member of The Children’s Dispensary and served as President for two years.  She was a Board Member of the Art League and the Art Museum and one of the original Docents for Copshaholm of the Northern Indiana Center for History.  Anne also served as a leader of many self help groups in the community as well as a Medicare Advisor at Batell Center.  In 1997 she was a Nominee for the Volunteer of the Year award, Tribute to Women.
Anne’s greatest life mission was her children and grandchildren and she was the heart of her family.  She took great joy in their everyday accomplishments and enjoyed giving out advice and encouragement.  Her door was always open and her front porch was the meeting place of her neighborhood.  The light of her last year of life was her “Little Beauty”, her great granddaughter Emma.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Shaya Mokfi, for the care and love he gave to Anne over the last 15 years, to Chelsea Egierski, for her devotion and care over the last year and to Don & Cindy Horvath, for their care and friendship over many years.
