Betty Lou Upham

December 16, 1929 ~ September 14, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Betty Lou Upham, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, and surrounded by her loving family. She was 87 years old.  She was born December 16, 1929 in Jackson Township, IN, a daughter of Edward & Ruth (Regnold) Cecrle,  and has lived most of her life in South Bend.

On April 15, 1955 in South Bend, Betty was united in marriage to Richard A. Upham, and they enjoyed  29 years of marriage until his passing on September 29, 1984.  She was also preceded in death by her son Leland Upham on August 3, 1976, as well as two brothers, Paul & David Cecrle.

Mrs. Upham is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen & Joe Gentry of South Bend, and her son and daughter-in-law, Philip & Annette Upham of South Bend.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jessica (Terry) Hayes, Jesse (Alison) Upham, Jalyn Upham, Andrew Gentry, and Amber (Tyler) Sharp, four great-grandchildren, Damian and Gatlin Hayes, and Leland & Cecilia Upham, and one on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Lu Goddard of Niles, MI; and three brothers, Ben (Joan) Cecrle, and Charles (Joyce) Cecrle, both of Melbourne, FL; and  Sam (Judy) Cecrle of Walkerton, IN; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don & Joan Upham, and sister-in-law, Mickey Upham, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Upham worked for the Bendix Corp. an Janco in Mishawaka.  She was a longtime faithful member of Christ Temple in South Bend, and worked at the Christ Temple Food Bank for more than twenty years.

Services celebrating her life will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Christ Temple, South Bend.  Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. Sunday at Christ Temple Church, and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mrs. Upham may be offered to Christ Temple Food Bank, or the Center for Hospice Care, Inc. 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.   Services are under the care and direction of the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, South Bend.
