Carolyn J. Jakab

Carolyn J. "Carol" Florkowski Jakab, 68, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 10:02 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in her home surrounded by her children.

She was born March 26, 1941 in South Bend, the daughter of Joseph & Delphine H. (Markowski) Florkowski.

On November 25, 1978 in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Louis N. Jakab, Jr. He passed away on December 24, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her father Joseph, known as John Mason.

She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia D. & Dan Kizer of Lakeville, Candace M. & Brian Rassi and Eva Kinzie of South Bend, four sons, Raymond E. & Patty Bonek, and Rick A. & Chrissy Bonek all of Granger, Roy S. Bonek of Leesburg, FL, and Louis N. Jakab, III of South Bend. Also surviving Carol is her mother, Delphine H. Florkowski of South Bend, her brother, Jerry & Ceil Florkowski of South Bend, twenty -one grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Carol retired in 2001 from the South Bend Park Dept. where she was employed at the Potawatomi Park Greenhouse for fourteen years. She loved to play bingo, go to the boat, and watch game shows. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, and friend to all.

The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to Michelle at American Home Nursing, Sharon at Harbor Light Hospice, and Carol's aide, Heather for all you have done for our mother.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday before the service. Interment will be on Monday at Southlawn Cemetery.
